Roles & Responsibilities
The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) is setting up a Centre for Research on Economic and Social Impacts of Climate Change in India, and policies to strengthen resilience and adaptation to such impacts. Given India’s global commitments related to carbon emissions, strengthening research capacity in support of policies to mitigate climate change risks is of vital interest.
Key Responsibilities
- We are seeking to hire a skilled and motivated economist for its climate change research program.
- The candidates would work as part of a fast-growing climate change economics team at NCAER.
- He/She will conduct policy-relevant in-depth research in areas at the intersection of climate change and development economics (e.g., economic growth, poverty, inequality, gender), public finance, macroeconomic analysis, and financial sector, including climate change transition in energy, transport, and urban sectors.
- The job provides an opportunity to grow professionally by working closely with national and international experts and agencies partnering with NCAER for its climate change work.
Expected that the candidate will:
- Conduct and publish high-quality research on climate change economics, independently, and/or as part of teams.
- Advance the conceptualization, design, and building of methodology and primary data collection for climate, green, and economic policy analysis at NCAER.
- Curate and analyze data from varied sources and carry out any other institutional tasks expected of a faculty member by the institution.
- Expected to be a self-driven performer with a passion for delving into complex policy challenges; cutting-edge technical background; multi-tasking capabilities; a flair for detail; and, the ability to adhere to stringent timelines.
- Should have a strong empirical background; the ability to work in a team; problem-solving skills; creative thinking; good verbal & written skills; organize & present.
Job Qualifications
- An advanced university degree in economics or related field (Ph.D. preferred)
- For Associate Fellow freshers or those who have submitted a thesis can apply. For a Fellow, a minimum of 3 to 5 years of full-time relevant professional experience is required.
- Excellent general skills in economic analysis (including economic policy modeling and policy analysis) with expertise in the areas at the intersection of climate action and development economics (e.g., economic growth, poverty, inequality, gender), public finance, macroeconomic analysis, and financial sector. Candidates with relevant economic skills and with sectoral focus (Energy, Transport, Urban, and Agriculture) on climate change transition will also be considered.
- Excellent writing and presenting skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, a flexible and cooperative attitude, and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels. Ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Superior time/project management skills are essential.
