WCS-India is looking to hire two Research Interns for its Counter Wildlife Trafficking (CWT) to work with us for three months on a project related to consumption of softshell turtles in West Bengal.
Project Brief
The CWT unit of WCS-India has initiated a project to understand the softshell turtle trade in the district of North 24 Parganas, and develop appropriate interventions to reduce it. We aim to work with a broad range of stakeholders including district administration, health department, municipality, and consumers.
Duration
Three months from start date, with possibility of extension
Key Responsibilities
- Support the researchers to conducting interviews in field
- Provide support in translating data into English
- Cleaning and collating data in an organized and timely manner
- Basic analysis and summarization of data to identify trends
- Assist in other relevant work and research related to the project
- Adhere to ethical research practices and maintain confidentiality
Job Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Candidates with a background in Social Science or a related field are preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bengali are a must. Hindi is desirable, but not mandatory.
- Basic computer literacy, such as working with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Willing to travel extensively to the field site.
- Interest in wildlife and food culture.
- Candidates based in North 24 Parganas are preferred.
