Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) is seeking candidates for the role of Analyst who would be responsible to provide essential support in the planning and execution of research initiatives.

About the Position

The Analyst role, reporting directly to the Head of CSF, would be responsible for providing essential support in the planning and execution of research initiatives, capacity building activities, collaborative forums, and engagement with stakeholders. Additionally, the incumbent will be an active contributor to various ongoing projects and programs undertaken by CPI in India.

The ideal candidate will bring prior experience related to climate policy, finance, or regulation. Furthermore, a demonstrated focus on specific issues such as social and governance will be hugely valuable in this role.

At the heart of this role is the opportunity to contribute to sustainable finance strategies, foster impactful policy interventions, and actively participate in initiatives that drive positive change at the intersection of climate action and economic development.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on topics related to sustainable finance, including policy and regulation, market practices, reporting and disclosure, taxonomy, and innovative financial mechanisms.
  • Analyze interactions between public and private actors and resources in the context of sustainable finance.
  • Co-author, review, and contribute to the development of long research reports, issue briefs, and blogs.
  • Curriculum development for capacity development programs on sustainable finance for various stakeholders, including banks, financial institutions, policymakers, and regulators.
  • Support in the delivery of capacity building programs.
  • Coordinate internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other dissemination activities.
  • Engage with clients, policymakers, and investors to provide advice on the implications of research findings.
  • Represent CPI/CSF and present research findings at high-level events and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders, existing clients, and potential partners in the field of sustainable finance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A commitment to CPI’s mission and values and a passion for addressing climate change related policy and finance issues.
  • Post Graduate degree in Finance/Economics/Engineering /Management/CFA and demonstrable post qualification experience in field.
  • Significant professional experience in financial services, management consulting/advisory/research, international non-profit, government, and/or a multi-lateral institution.
  • Independent, analytical mind with an excellent track record of applying sound financial judgment to complex issues.
  • Flexibility, professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and an ability to interact with a diverse array of people.
  • An ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including fluency in English.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated research capability – Publication of research papers /working papers on finance or climate/sustainable/green finance/ESG in referred journals or reputed publishers (Reputed Think-tank, business schools/universities, international institutions, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of time series financial econometrics, and asset pricing
  • Exposure /Experience in sustainable finance and clean energy and other climate mitigation and adaptation sectors
  • Exposure/Experience in working with the Government, Financial Regulators, domestic and international philanthropy, and DFIs.

Competencies & Personal Attributes

  • You are a team player and a self-starter and can survive and thrive with minimum guidance.
  • You have an independent, analytical mind with a track record of applying sound strategic judgment to complex issues.
  • You have strong quantitative, data management, data analysis, and critical thinking.
  • You are an advanced user of MS Office suite, in particular Excel, and able to learn and adapt to new systems; candidates who have proficiency in R and Python will be preferred.
  • You are willing to travel domestically.
