Feminism In India (FII) is looking for an Assistant Editor to join the English editorial team full-time. This position would require you to work with predominantly textual content and assist the Associate Editor in managing the daily editorial and growth of the FII English website. FII is based out of New Delhi, but works remotely.

Qualifications
- A background in journalism, English, or social sciences.
- Minimum 1-2 years of previous editorial experience at an online publication is preferred
- Deep and nuanced understanding of Indian intersectional feminist politics.
- Strong grasp of the English language, with a good ability to edit and give feedback to writers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.
- Experience with WordPress backend preferable.
- A sense of ethical journalism, i.e. what kind of language to use, pictures to feature, especially when writing about sensitive issues.
- A news junkie who is interested in exploring news angles that the traditional media avoids/ignores.
- Initiative-taking abilities to pitch new ideas, think outside the box and innovate when it comes to content and content representation.
- Ability to stay organised, take ownership of their work, meet deadlines, and work well with the team.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Writing articles on cultural, socio political issues from a feminist lens.
- Managing guest submissions which involves reviewing guest contributions, providing feedback wherever necessary and editing the articles for publication.
- Managing the writers programme which would involve hiring, mentoring, training and providing guidance for our community of writers with their writing tasks.
- Assisting the Associate Editor in editing submissions for grammar, spelling, and content, to be published daily on the online platform.
- Tracking everyday news related to intersectional feminism (in India and by extension South Asia and Global South), pitching story ideas and writing about the same.
- Making sure all articles agree with our intersectional feminist approach and are in tandem with our editorial policy and style guide.
- Sourcing, pitching and identifying story ideas that will create an impact with our audience.
- Assisting the Associate Editor in managing the online internship programme.
- Maintaining records such as articles published, interns progress report and author’s lists.
- Working in coordination with the editorial and social media teams.
- Participate in groups, conferences and events as an FII representative.
- Contribute to other admin tasks and FII’s on-ground events as and when required.
- Weekend, night and holiday work might be required on a case to case basis.
Selection Procedure
The selection procedure takes place in three phases.
Phase 1: The candidate will send us a complete application with the following information:

- Why do you wish to apply for this post?
- What are some of the changes in terms of editorial strategy and mode of operations that can be made in order to make FII a more amplified, diverse and intersectional feminist voice in India?
- A short write-up of maximum 200 words on what intersectionality means to you, reflecting on your own social position.
- Current CTC and expected CTC (Remuneration will be based on experience and qualification of the applicant).
- Names and email contact details of 2 references.
Phase 2: Shortlisted candidates from Phase 1 will be required to do a test for Phase 2, which will involve writing an article, editing a mock article and other similar tasks. More information will be provided to only the shortlisted candidates.
Phase 3: Shortlisted candidates from Phase 2 will be called for an interview (to be held online).
