Punjab Youth Leaders Program (PYLP) is inviting applications form eligible youths to be a part of the program. It is a two-year full time leadership development program for young people in Punjab.

About PYLP

PYLP is a two-year full-time leadership development program for young people in Punjab. Its purpose is to foster a lifelong community of changemakers. A PYLP Young Leader (YL) will drive systemic change from the ground level in the public education system of Punjab.

PYLP (Punjab Youth Leaders Program) is a flagship program of the Sanjhi Sikhiya Foundation, a not-profit organization dedicated to transforming Punjab into a land of hope, courage, and possibilities.

PYLP Eligiblity

The eligibility criteria for the Punjab Youth Leaders Program (PYLP) is:

  • A graduate degree in any discipline
  • Must be under 30 years old (by June 2025).
  • Prior experience in leadership, community work, or education is helpful but not compulsory
  • Open to individuals from all backgrounds, including those who are new to this type of work, who are interested in solving on ground challenges in Punjab.
  • An interest in improving education in Punjab, whether through leadership, teacher support, or working with communities.
  • Passion for specifically in education is welcome but not essential—what matters is a commitment to creating meaningful change.

Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of the social/development sector, prior experience in education will be preferred.
  • Ability to set goals, think creatively to solve problems, and deliver high-quality results.
  • Strong skills in managing your time and planning daily activities to meet long-term goals.
  • Ability to identify, build and manage inclusive partnerships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills in Punjabi, English, and Hindi to engage and inspire stakeholders. Fluency in any of the two language is must.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office, Canva, and a willingness to adapt to and learn new technology tools.

What PYLP young leaders do?

  • A Punjab Youth Leader will work with clusters of government schools, an area within a district of Punjab which comprises of 10-15 schools.
  • He/she will be bringing together all the major stakeholders of the schools – teachers, parents, Panchayats and local officials – and make them part of the journey in the transformation of schools.
  • In this process, he/she will acquire essential leadership skills, such as organizing people and resources, and form a life-long support community with others based on shared experience on the ground.

How PYLP help you in Professional Growth

PYLP young leaders will develop high socio-cultural competence along with the skills needed for living a life in service. The young leaders will be given an opportunity to work with bureaucrats of the respective districts. This will expose them to the functioning of the government at the district/block/cluster level.

PYLP Selection Process

The candidates will be selected through the given process

  • On submitting the online application form, applicants will be shortlisted as per the eligibility criteria and their alignment with the Program.
  • Shortlisted applicants will have to complete a pre-work, the details of which will be communicated separately through email and/or phone.
  • Upon evaluation of the pre-work, shortlisted applicants will be invited for group activities and interviews.

PYLP Stipend

The stipend for the PYLP will be Rs. 20,000 PM (Inc. ESI, EPF, Professional Tax, etc.)

PYLP Young Leader will be based out of either Patiala, Ropar, Fatehgarh Sahib, or Bathinda, any other district of Punjab.

FAQs

1. To apply for PYLP, do i need to be a resident of Punjab?

Not necessarily, candidate from any part of the world is eligible for the program. The only condition to apply is that you must be willing towards working in Punjab.

2. How long is the commitment to the Program?

The young leader will be working six days a week over a period of two years.

3. Can i study along with the Program?

This is a two-year full-time commitment and thereby doesn’t allow any other course, employment and coaching to be pursued.

4. Are the selected candidates for PYLP, positioned as research associate?

This is not a research position. The fellow will be exposed to a lot of issues in Punjab and if desired, he/she can write a research paper on any of the issues. Exceptional papers will be given full assistance to get them published in leading national and international journals.

5. What will be the accommodation arrangement for the fellows?

The fellows will be given assistance to find accommodation around the allotted clusters.

6. Do i need to have any social sector experience to apply?

No, social sector experience is not mandatory. However, a deep interest in or social conscience about current social issues will be an added advantage. We are inviting people who have a passion for social change.

7. Is it compulsory to know Punjabi language?

Knowing the Punjabi language will be an asset as the fellow will be working closely with grass root stakeholders, however, it is not a limiting factor for considering your application.

8. What should be the title to save my video?

The title of the video should be “PYLP 2025 Application <Your Full Name>”.
