Role of Communications Officer

We are looking for a communication officer to play a vital role in changing narratives, policies, and practices to advance social justice and impact sustainable development. You will work for the internal and external communications of Sakshi and external clients, including but not limited to social media, press releases, websites, reports, and annual reports. You will strategize, plan, write, oversee operations, and ensure the work is done within the timeline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive long and short-term strategic communications plans for SAKSHI, including pitches for potential clients, overseeing production and events, media strategy/outreach, press releases, coordinating press calls/webinars, social media, website, and email content.
  • Manage day-to-day client deliverables with the SBOX team as well as freelancers and external partners, including overseeing the end-to-end execution of projects and ensuring timely deliverables for clients.
  • Coordinate the calendar and production of print and digital materials, publications, blog posts, videos, e-newsletters, annual reports and brochures, and web and social media content for SBOX and all external clients.
  • Oversee communications infrastructure, including Google Workspace, Zoom, Salesforce, Website, Social Media Channels, and other tools.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the team, partners, vendors, and a wide range of other stakeholders involved in the production.
  • Strengthen ties with local, national, and international reporters, editors, and producers to ensure optimal visibility for SBOX and its services.
  • Carry out media relations activity, including exploring new and creative ways to engage with media and influencers, identifying key media contacts, outlets, and markets to maximize news coverage and support strategic communications goals
  • Handle incoming inquiries from the media and determine the most appropriate internal expert per request, brief reporters when necessary, brief the expert on the journalist and news outlet, and help arrange interviews.
  • Maintain and update media contact lists/ databases, including ensuring information storage and archives are regularly updated.
  • Execute internal and external non-recurring special events, including fundraising initiatives, physical events, and webinars, and oversee theme development, speaker recruitment, guest lists, content preparation, and promotion.
  • Provide oversight and improve the effectiveness of internal communications, including social media, web presence, and email communications, in coordination with relevant SBOX staff.
  • Advise on reputational or other risks for SBOX while supporting the SBOX team to continue doing the work.
  • Support the content team to draft high-quality collateral as and when required, including press releases, media briefings, talking points, social media posts, video content, and blogs/op-eds
  • Ensure that our communications are disseminated in an appropriate and accessible format on various platforms, including the website, social media channels, and email communications.
  • Hire, engage, enlist, and train the team to serve as promoters for SBOX and provide them with opportunities to upskill.
  • Review, strengthen, and manage the SBOX’s branding, visual identity, and style guidelines.
  • Participate in internal culture development and diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Attend events and meetings on behalf of the CEO when required

Education

Master’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience
  • Creating, developing, and implementing long and short-term strategic communication plans.
  • Directing and working with organizational leadership on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information.
  • Raising the profile of an organization to a range of stakeholder audiences.
  • Coordinating with team members, including interacting with partner ecosystems and vendors, to execute strategies and supervise their work effectively.

  • You are skilled at creating clear and compelling communications materials, including websites, promotional materials, newsletters, and press releases.
  • You have a solid ability to identify newsworthy stories and events creatively.
  • You’re familiar with graphic design applications and web-based technologies (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, WordPress, Squarespace, etc.) to effectively direct staff who perform technical work.
  • You have excellent leadership and people skills and can quickly establish rapport and build relationships.
  • You’re a great communicator; with strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Hindi.
