What are we solving for in End Ultra Poverty program?

End Ultra Poverty (EUP) program is solving for households in ultra-poverty through a targeted, multi-faceted and sequenced model called the graduation approach which has demonstrated that ultra-poverty can be conquered. 

At The/Nudge we have been piloting this program for the past 3 years and are in the process of catalyzing propagation of the same. Our purpose is to contribute to ending ultra-poverty in India. EUP will:

  • continue to implement on its own to iterate the design for impact at scale
  • enable more NGOs to adopt technical and capacity-building support
  • enable govt to adopt by providing research, design, and implementation support
  • continue to generate data on ultra-poverty and evidence on graduation approach to nudge governments to adopt at scale
  • build technology solutions for NGOs and governments to adopt and implement at scale & with quality.

What are some of the principles/approaches we use to solve problems?

Key Accountabilities

Ensure the quality of special projects on ultra-poor inclusion at the National Project Management Unit at the MoRD:

a. Robust and realistic project planning and benchmarking of results for each project

b. Smooth implementation of individual projects through regular reviews with state teams, field visits and provision of the required technical support (coordination with internal and external stakeholders)

c. Optimal utilization of budgets through monthly reviews (internal and with MoRD Leadership) and support in the timely forecasting and allocation of funds

d. Assessment and analysis of projects on regular basis and developing alternate plans/strategies for smooth implementation of projects if faced with challenges or deviations

e. Ensure that learnings are institutionalised across projects and further inform program strategy at the national level. 

f. Strengthening documentation and reporting    by supporting state teams in fulfilling all reporting requirements – internal or external. Leverage analytics and reports to determine effectiveness and seek continual improvements of initiatives.

g. Streamline coordination and communication between all stakeholders in the project – at the state, the centre, TNI and hubs – to ensure quality of program delivery and consistent program representation.  Develop quality processes and SoPs that are less people dependent and enable smooth project execution overall.

Skills

– Demonstrated and excellent skills to collaborate with multiple stakeholders

– Excellent skills in planning and designing the program and proactively monitoring its progress, resolving issues, and initiating appropriate corrective action

– Eye for detail: ensuring effective quality assurance and the overall integrity of the program, in accordance with the results committed

– Proficiency in the usage of project management tools

– Excellent skills in both spoken and written communication. Fluency in Hindi is preferred

– Willingness to travel and stay in remote-location rural areas, as and when required

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public policy, Political science, Public administration, Statistics, International relations, Legal studies, Sociology, Economics and/or allied social sciences 
  • 6-8 years of program management experience
  • Deep understanding of products and services underpinning stakeholder relationships in the government
  • Prior experience in working with Rural Development departments and Rural Livelihood Missions will be valued
