About the Project

The Sharks and Rays Project aims to collaborate with a diversity of stakeholders at key landing sites across mainland India to incorporate sustainability into shark fisheries. The team works to address critical gaps in baseline knowledge, leveraging our findings to develop capacities within key stakeholders via effective engagements and outreach.

About the Position

We encourage applications from candidates with a minimum of 2 years experience on projects involving community engagement. The Project Associate will work with the existing Sharks and Rays Team at Kakinada and is expected to co-lead field activities, carry out research studies and collaborative activities, and maintain project-stakeholder relations. Additionally, the Project Associate will also support the team with other relevant activities and other programmatic deliverables.  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop existing relationships with communities on-ground at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, to enable timely delivery of goals. 
  • Assist existing team members on-site with interviews. 
  • Co-lead collaborative engagements aimed at incorporating sustainability into shark fisheries on site. 
  • Advance reporting, scientific and popular literature, social media efforts, and other forms of outreach and communications as needed. 
  • Contribute to the timely completion of other relevant deliverables of the Marine Programme in collaboration with team members. 

Essential Requirements

  • Fluency in Telugu. 
  • No less than 2 years of hands-on experience in community engagement.  
  • Demonstrated experience in managing field activities and project reporting. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • A Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Conservation, or other closely allied, human-centric disciplines.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience working with fisheries. 
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative data analyses. 
  • Basic experience with analytical and exploratory software like R, QGIS, etc. 

Location

Kakinada (With frequent travel to Bengaluru)
