Duration– Long-term position with 6 months probationary period

About the role

The Programme Officer will work with the Programme Head of the Sustainable Fisheries Programme and other relevant institutional personnel. The is a mid-level management role within the organization and involves a combination of technical and administrative work towards the smooth functioning of the programme.

Job Description

The Sustainable Fisheries programme is one of the core thematic programmes at Dakshin Foundation. The overarching goals of the programme are:

● To create interdisciplinary knowledge on various dimensions of India’s fisheries sector through focused research aimed at informing sustainable fisheries management

● To create systems of participatory fisheries governance in small-scale fisheries across various coastal geographies in India through multi-stakeholder engagement and contextualized interventions at the grassroots level

Currently, projects under the Sustainable Fisheries programme (both short-term and long-term) are underway in the Lakshadweep Islands, the Andaman Islands, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

Requisite qualifications/ skills

  1. A master’s degree in fisheries/marine science, development studies, natural resource governance, social work or any allied discipline with at least 4 years of work experience.
  2. Prior experience working on fisheries or issues of natural resource governance (through research and/or interventions) in the Indian context.
  3. Prior experience in project/programme and financial management at research organizations or in the social sector.
  4. Strong coordination and people management skills.
  5. Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).

Preferred qualifications/ skills

  1. Candidates with relevant work experience of over 5 years will have an advantage.
  2. Prior experience working on small-scale fisheries will be an advantage.
  3. A working knowledge of one or more South Indian languages spoken in the Indian coasts will be an advantage.
